49th Annual State LIWA conference a great success

23 August 2018

The 49th Annual State LIWA Aquatics conference and trade exhibition was held at The Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle recently and proved to be a tremendous success.

Taking place over the course two days, more than 200 delegates attended each day to hear of the latest in LIWA related practice, including Emergency Care and Response, Water Wise and Resource Status, Developments in Sustainability, Regional Focus and New Industry Related Technology.

37 trade booths from various businesses featured aquatic industry related services, goods and gadgets and were a source of great knowledge swapping as delegates met with stall holders, mingling and conversing about the latest aquatic developments in safety, technology and fun.

Key note speaker and former Dockers star, Matthew Pavlich, opened the conference with a passionate presentation on leadership and high-performance stemming from his elite football career with the Fremantle Dockers. He also reminisced on a personal story involving himself and a school swimming carnival incident where he dislocated his left shoulder following a starting dive.

A conference dinner and award ceremony took place on the first evening of the two-day event, with several stars of the LIWA family having their stellar efforts celebrated with awards in front of over 200 of their peers.

The 2018 Waterwise Pools award winners were Onslow Aquatic Centre, Margaret River Recreation Centre, Bridgetown Leisure Centre, Quairading Memorial Swimming Pool, Waroona Recreation and Aquatic Centre and Williams Swimming Pool.

The Watch Around Water Facility of the Year Winners were Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre, Cannington Leisureplex and Riverton Lesiureplex.

The President’s Award was awarded to Royal Life Saving WA superstar trainer, Sallie Watson, and the LIWA Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Tony Head for all his years of diligent and brilliant work with LIWA.

Royal Life Saving WA congratulates all the award winners for their fantastic work and achievements.
