Students from the local Christmas Island District High School recently took part in a series of activities to improve their swimming fitness and water safety skills.

Local teacher Sharon Francis says the year 8 and 9 students are getting ready for a special trip next month. ”On 13th October 27 students from the school will be travelling by plane to Cocos Keeling Island for a Year 8 & 9 Enterprise Camp. During the camp students will be travelling on a ferry and motorised kayaks, so in preparation for these water activities we headed to Flying Fish Cove to make sure they were all up to speed on their water skills.”A group of students on the jetty and in the water

The students have been preparing for the camp over a long period of time, raising money to cover the costs by running small business enterprises in 2019 and 2020. This included creating and selling Fire Pits, Trophies, Cakes and Coffee Beans, as well as conducting Car Washes.

Royal Life Saving WA commends the team at Christmas Island District High School for making their students’ water safety a priority and ensuring they have the skills they will need to fully enjoy their upcoming camp. We congratulate the students on the amazing effort they’ve made to raise funds for the camp and we hope they have an amazing time!
