Colin Hassell Our Marathon Man
Colin Hassell, Royal Life Saving Society WA’s Board President, has made us all proud by completing the 2018 London Marathon and raising well over his target amount for the Challengers – the UK based charity he formed with Dr Helen Foley in 1976.
Colin ran the 26.2-mile-long course around the River Thames in just over 7.25 hours and raised over $4500 for the Challengers.
This was despite him injuring his Achilles heel at the 10-kilometre mark – Colin powered on and completed the marathon against all odds. No bad for a bloke pushing 70!
The 2018 London Marathon marked Colin’s 53rd marathon - prior to the event he remarked ‘I am under no illusion this will be my toughest challenge but will be worth every step it takes to reach my goal’.
Despite tough conditions and an injury, Colin – you met your goal, and then some!
To a man who shows no signs of slowing down, Colin, we congratulate you.
