Disbelief for latest raffle winner
Have you ever bought a raffle ticket before but deep down believed there was no chance you would actually win? Often when we call raffle winners there is a real sense of disbelief when we tell them they've won because it's so unexpected and they had purchased the tickets believing they were supporting our cause but never really expected to win.
That was certainly the case when we called our latest raffle winner Sharyn from Riverton, whose lucky ticket number 83463 was drawn on the 31st May. She was travelling overseas at the time so when we called her mobile and told her we were calling from Royal Life Saving WA she hurriedly said "I'm overseas and this call is costing me a fortune!" before hanging up! We followed up with a text message to tell her the good news and she was shocked.
Sharyn says "I was overseas with some friends to celebrate the fact that one of them had just turned 70. I'd had lots of strange calls on my phone so thought your call was just another one of those. When I received the text I couldn't believe that I'd actually won $18,000 so I didn't even tell my friends the whole time we were away!"
When Sharyn returned home to Perth recently we were able to actually chat to her on the phone and make it clear that she really had won, and we'd be sending the money to her bank account. The win finally became a reality for her. "I am so amazed to have won, wow, maybe we can go on another overseas holiday!"
