Dream comes true for a long-term supporter
Often when people buy a raffle ticket there’s that nagging suspicion that perhaps no-one ever really wins, and you’re in fact just supporting the cause. At least that’s the assumption Helen from Morley had made after supporting Royal Life Saving Society WA’s raffles since 2012.
So on the 31st of May, when Helen received a message on her mobile phone asking her to call Royal Life Saving back she assumed we were asking her to buy tickets! “I thought you were being a bit cheeky asking me to call you back so you could get me to buy more tickets, so when I returned the call to be told I had won the car I couldn’t believe it!”
Helen had recently been discussing with her husband the fact that the repairs needed on her old car would cost more than the car was worth, and they’d have to think about how they could pay to get a new one for her. The timing was perfect when Helen’s lucky ticket number 29800 was drawn as the winner for our latest major raffle, with the prize being $18,000 or a brand new Hyundai i30!
“I called my husband and we were both in a state of shock, we just couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t until I went onto the website and saw my name listed there as the raffle winner that I realized it was true!”
Helen decided to take the $18,000 cash and put it towards a car that would suit their family’s needs, and she’s now the proud owner of a Hyundai Tucson. “It’s just beautiful and I can’t believe it’s mine. The kids are not allowed to eat in it and the dog will have to wait until that new car feeling as gone before going for a ride in the boot!”
Helen’s reasons for supporting Royal Life Saving Society WA through our raffles are quite personal. “I only learnt to swim as an adult and even now my children can swim better than me! I know how important swimming is as a skill and we’ve made sure our kids have done lessons so they can be safe in the water. Royal Life Saving does great work in the community helping people learn this vital skill and raising awareness about drowning prevention.”
We had the pleasure of meeting Helen and her husband Jay this week, when they came in to receive the giant cheque she had always dreamed of receiving, and show us her beautiful new car. We wish them all the best and thank them for their continued support!
