Grey Medallion teaches swimming and lifesaving skills for seniors

17 April 2018

Over 55 and interested in brushing up on your swimming and Lifesaving skills? Good news! RLSSWA is launching the Grey Medallion program for seniors in WA.

The Grey Medallion program aims to encourage a healthy, independent and active lifestyle through the development of essential lifesaving skills such us water safety knowledge, basic rescue skills, aquatic exercise and resuscitation techniques.

The drowning statistics involving older adults in WA are alarming! 55 older adults drowned between 2005 and 2015 and 93 were hospitalised following non-fatal drowning incidents during that period. 76 per cent were male, 24 per cent were female.

The Grey Medallion is a very flexible program which can be tailored to suit participants’ skills and abilities. It's been around in other parts of the nation for a while and has been promoted through the below video produced by our National branch.

Three Grey Medallion courses are being held in Joondalup, Geraldton and Bunbury during May, so if you'd like to get involved click the link below to register your interest!
