Keep Watch Community Help Grants announced

14 July 2015

Recently the Royal Life Saving Society WA announced the successful applicants of the inaugural round of the Keep Watch Community Help Grants, with three families receiving grants up to $2500.

The grants are to help families in WA with a child impacted by a non-fatal drowning incident.

The grants provide financial assistance for counselling, physiotherapy, equipment, building or equipment modifications, technology or other resource or items that would help make a difference in their lives, following a non-fatal drowning accident.

  • Grant 1 - a family received funding for their daughter who was involved in a drowning incident that occurred in 2013 in regional WA. Royal Life Saving Society WA provided funding for continued physiotherapy treatment that is required to help with muscle movement and development.
  • Grant 2 - a family received funding for their young son who was involved in a drowning incident that occurred in early 2015. Royal Life Saving Society WA provided funding for transport, fuel vouchers, parking and miscellaneous expenses to assist with the financial burden of continued travel to and from PMH, while he is in hospital receiving specialised medical treatment.
  • Grant 3 - a family received funding for their son who was involved in a drowning incident over 5 years ago. Royal Life Saving Society WA provided funding for a modified bicycle (three wheeler) for their son to assist with ongoing physiotherapy and motor skills development.

Royal Life Saving CEO, Mr Peter Leaversuch said "These grants will play an important role in the lives of these families and children that have sadly been impacted by a drowning accident. In addition to the grant we can offer a range of support services, including peer to peer support through our Keep Watch Ambassadors."

Community Help Grants are offered year round, and you can download an application form on our Community Help Grants page.
