Lifesaving seniors complete full qualifications
A group of seniors who started their lifesaving journey in 2018 have now completed their full first aid qualifications.
The group were part of Royal Life Saving WA’s pilot Grey Medallion lifesaving program at Arena Joondalup in 2018, a water safety and lifesaving skills initiative for older adults (+ 55). It aims to encourage a healthy, independent and active lifestyle through the development of essential lifesaving skills such us water safety knowledge, basic rescue skills, aquatic exercise and resuscitation techniques.
They enjoyed the program so much that they went on to complete their Bronze Medallion last year and have just recently also finished their full first aid training.
Royal Life Saving WA trainer Isabel Franzoni has taught the group right throughout their journey, volunteering her time to enable them to do their recent first aid training. She says its incredible to see how far they have come, with some of them originally afraid to simply get their hair wet! They now have complete first aid and rescue skills and are fully prepared to assist in an emergency on land and in the water!
