Northshore staff get qualified for summer season

5 December 2021

Staff from Northshore Christian Grammar School recently joined Royal Life Saving WA trainer Cameron Eglington to complete their Bronze Medallion award in time for the school’s summer calendar of events.

In preparation for a busy season of camps and excursions with students, Health and Physical Education (HPE) staff at the school have been brushing up on their first aid and lifesaving skills. Northshore Christian Grammar School is situated in the Shorehaven community at Alkimos, a fast-growing region of Perth’s northern corridor between Butler and Yanchep. Less than five minutes from the beach, students at the school enjoy participating in a range of outdoor and aquatic activities.

On Friday 26th November, five staff members attended a Bronze Medallion requalification course at Hillarys Marina Beach. The course was led by Royal Life Saving WA Aquatic Trainer Cameron Eglington, who says the group chose a great day to complete their training. “It was the most beautiful weather conditions to be in the water and was a sure sign of the summer to come,” he said.

The Bronze Medallion is the recognised standard in lifesaving awards and teaches the skills and knowledge to safely carry out water rescues and provide first aid and CPR in emergency situations.

“For the camps, excursions and the fast-approaching beach carnival, the HPE staff made sure they are ready for a safe and productive series of events,” said Cameron. “It is not only the HPE staff who participate in these courses. Their Head of School, Mr Stuart Chisholm, has also made himself available in the past to complete his qualification but unfortunately this year he missed out with a very busy schedule.”
