Shonagh shines a light on our Pilbara training courses
Royal Life Saving Society WA’s range of new courses in the Pilbara are attracting the best of the best in trainers to facilitate the training. One amazing trainer, Shonagh Bradstock, is thoroughly enjoying her time as a trainer for the upcoming AUSTSWIM Instructor course in Port Hedland.
Shonagh's been an AUSTSWIM instructor for quite a few years, balancing it with her role as the Individual Support Lecturer at North Regional TAFE. Teaching and training in AUSTSWIM courses across the Pilbara and Kimberley keeps Shonagh very busy and inspired, believing one of the most important aspects of her teaching is to "teach people to save lives and to swim – one drowning is one drowning too many."
The AUSTSWIM course is a nationally recognised training program, enabling students to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to teach swimming and water safety classes across Australia. It provides candidates with essential competencies to teach swimming and water safety to people from four years of age in swimming pools and confined natural shallow water venues, with accreditation valid for three years.
Shonagh says of her role: "Training for me is a passion – and when you do something you love everyday - it’s not work!" She says it's a great time for people in Port Hedland and across the Pilbara to complete the training as swim instructors are in demand!
"In Hedland new instructors are urgently needed as the South Hedland and Gratwick Aquatic Centres are keen to grow their swim schools but can only do so with enough qualified swim teachers available! There's also a need for instructors to help facilitate Department of Education programs in regional WA as these are sometimes cancelled due to a shortage of qualified swim teachers available to run programs in these areas!"
Shonagh is looking forward to facilitating the new training programs and "to enjoy my time in the Pilbara and to see as much of it as possible. I’d love to photograph as much of it as I can – it’s a bit of a hobby for me!"
We wish Shonagh all the best in her endeavours as an AUSTSWIM instructor in The Pilbara – if you would like more information on our training courses in The Pilbara, please click the link below.
