With the school holidays in full swing, and the sun finally out again, Kwinana kids have been enjoying spending time in the pool at Kwinana Requatic.Walter with a little girl by the pool at Kwinana

Requatic Coordinator Brad Miller says the team has been grateful for Walter’s assistance. “We’re busy at the moment and needed extra staff, so I was forced to utilise Walter to some fill in lifeguard shifts yesterday and today. Walter was fantastic and did a great job of preventing the children from drowning!”

Walter has been flat out during his time at Kwinana Requatic, visiting the gym, stadium and very busy Vacation Care program which is entertaining over 50 registered kids. Brad says “All enjoyed the love Walter offered on both days. It’s been great to see the faces on the kids and parents meeting him for the first time. They loved their stickers and balloons and it was great to spread the Watch Around Water message to the Mums and Dads.”

With all this work experience we may soon see Walter receive a job offer, although Brad says there is one area where he does need to improve. “Unfortunately Walter is not the best communicator. His radio ethics are not quite up to our standard at this stage, but with more training and a little more confidence he may in the future apply for a full time Lifeguard position here at Recquatic.”

The annual pool party to launch the summer season at the centre happens tomorrow from 1pm – 3pm and will include music, games and giveaways.

Royal Life Saving, LIWA and Walter the Watchdog want to remind all parents attending aquatic centres across WA this summer about the important message of the Watch Around Water program… Your Child, Your Focus.
