24 June 2025
Royal Life Saving WA trainers, swim instructors, and staff gathered at Zamia Café in Kings Park last Friday to celebrate another year of commitment to lifesaving education and safety.

two trainers smilingThe 2025 End of Financial Year Recognition Breakfast brought together 40 attendees from Royal Life Saving WA and Endorsed Swim Schools to reflect on the impact of their work and recognise outstanding individual contributions.

Attendees enjoyed a relaxed breakfast overlooking the park, taking the opportunity to reconnect, share stories, and network with colleagues. The morning also featured a light-hearted “duck hunt” scavenger game around the café and gardens, along with a water safety quiz, which brought out some friendly competition!

This year’s awards presentation highlighted the standout work of three trainers:

Ian MansfieldIan Mansfield was presented with the Dedicated to Excellence in Aquatic Safety award. Since earning his Bronze Medallion in 2001 and becoming an Aquatic Trainer with Royal Life Saving WA in 2019, Ian has demonstrated exceptional knowledge and tireless commitment— delivering over 40 Bronze Medallion and requalification courses in the past year alone, and training hundreds across Western Australia in vital lifesaving skills.

The Empowering the Next Generation of Lifesavers award went to Sara Birch for her work delivering Bronze Medallion training to 195 students at Hale School this year. Her approach ensured that each young participant left the course both confident and ready to respond in an emergency.

Finally, Joanna Foulkes was recognised with the Celebrating Dedication to Lifelong Learning award for her commitment to continuous improvement. Completing more professional development sessions than any other attendee this year, Joanna’s pursuit of excellence sets a benchmark in the field of aquatic safety education!

Events like this are important to recognise and thank our trainers, swim teachers and Endorsed Swim School members for the important work they do in our community.
