New Patron for Royal Life Saving WA

15 June 2018

The Western Australian Governor has traditionally been the Patron of the Royal Life Saving Society WA, so when former Governor Kerry Sanderson AC's term expired on the 1st May this year, it also meant that there would be a change in the position of Royal Life Saving WA Patron.

Royal Life Saving WA President Colin Hassell wrote a letter to new Western Australian Governor, the Honourable Kim Beazley AC, inviting him to fulfill the Patron's role. This invitation was happily accepted this week so we are proud to announce that the Honourable Kim Beazley AC is now the Patron of Royal Life Saving Society WA.

Mr Beazley is the 33rd Governor of Western Australia, and prior to taking up this role on the 1st May this year had dedicated almost three decades to a career in Federal Parliament, representing the WA seats of Brand and Swan.

In 2009, Mr Beazley was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia for service to the Parliament of Australia through contributions to the development of government policies in relation to defence and international relations, and as an advocate for Indigenous people, and to the community.

We are pleased to have Mr Beazley accept the role of Patron for our organisation, and look forward to working with him in the coming months and years to promote our aims, to reduce the impact of drowning in our state and ensure all West Australians have an opportunity to learn vital swimming and water safety skills.
