RLSSWA and Diversus take home two technology awards

Royal Life Saving Society WA, along with our technology partner Diversus, recently received two awards at the WAITTA Incite Awards. The awards recognise outstanding performance and contributions within the Information Technology community in Western Australia.

RLSSWA and Diversus received awards in the categories of Most Transformative Business Solution and Most Impactful Social Benefit, for our new raffle microsite system which was implemented in February 2017 and is now benefitting 17 charities across Australia.

Every day Royal Life Saving WA looks for innovative ideas to help save lives. Fundraising is critical to our mission of providing water safety education and supporting those impacted by fatal and non-fatal drowning.

We’ve been conducting raffle-based fundraising campaigns for over 20 years, allowing generous community members to support us through a small financial contribution. Traditionally, raffle tickets were sold over the telephone and fulfilled through direct mail, or face-to-face with printed raffle books distributed to businesses and sold by fundraising staff at shopping centres and events. This had been a hugely successful and effective strategy for RLSSWA, but with significant changes in market dynamics, there was a need to innovate.

As the WA community is using digital solutions to transact, RLSSWA and Diversus developed a framework for a dedicated raffle microsite focussed on marketing and fulfilling raffle tickets digitally. Starting with our own raffles we created a dedicated microsite that optimises the raffle ticket purchasing process with minimum effort and instant fulfillment.

In the first year it’s estimated the microsite generated cost savings of nearly $22,000, which will increase as sales grow. It’s also created the opportunity for greater customer engagement and more efficient and effective digital marketing via eDMs, SMS and social media advertising.

Over the past year we’ve been able to develop similar microsites for 17 other charities so they can also benefit from this simplified process and the reduced costs and other benefits it brings.
