RLSSWA board member making a difference for cancer patients

4 November 2015

Royal Life Saving Society WA Board Member Colin Hassell has long been making a difference in drowning prevention, being involved with the Society for 53 years now since his youth in the UK.

But the past 3 years have seen Colin develop a passion for another cause also, after seeing his brother struggle through a battle with cancer.

"He was my mentor and one of my best friends, and over the past three years I felt guilty that all I could do was watch and support. It's taught me the real value of life and just how lucky I am."

In memory of his brother, and in support of others struggling with cancer, Colin is involved in a Relay For Life Event to take place in March next year, one year after his brother lost his cancer battle.

In order to raise funds for the event Colin recently got a team together to collect rubbish around the Northam area. They were paid $5 for each bag collected and with well over 500 bags they expect to receive more than $3000 for the cause.

Colin hopes to raise a total of $90,000 by the time the Relay For Life is held next year and we here at Royal Life Saving Society WA wish him all the best with his efforts!
