Royal Life Saving WA joins Duke of Ed Employer initiative
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, or Duke of Ed Award, is a leading youth development program (non-formal) that empowers young Australians aged 14-24 to explore their potential and embark on a journey of self-improvement. Through challenging themselves in a variety of ways as they complete the award, participants learn to discover their purpose, passion and place in the world.
More than 130 countries have adopted the Duke of Ed Award program, and over 8 million young people have participated to date. Earning an Award involves learning a skill, improving physical wellbeing, volunteering in the community and undertaking an adventure in an unfamiliar environment.
Royal Life Saving WA has joined the Duke of Ed Employer initiative, an international program which aims to provide added recognition to the young people who have challenged themselves to undertake the award. By becoming a Duke of Ed Employer, we acknowledge the sought-after skills gained by those who have participated in the award program.
The Duke of Ed Award imparts lifelong skills to participants such as communication, teamwork, responsibility, community mindedness, resilience and leadership. Skills such as these are particularly effective in the workplace, making them a valuable skill set that employers may look for in prospective employees.
Royal Life Saving WA believes that having the right people in an organisation is critical. When recruiting new employees, we look for people that can demonstrate leadership, integrity and are actively engaged in their local communities. The Duke of Ed Award is an effective way for young job seekers to acquire and demonstrate these important values and skills.
