Local heroes honoured at Goldfields Bravery Awards
Six exceptional lifeguards were celebrated for their courage and professionalism at the Royal Life Saving WA Bravery Awards, held at the Goldfields Oasis Recreation Centre in Kalgoorlie on Wednesday.

The awards recognised the heroic efforts of Carly Agot, Atefeh Mahboob, Regan Carrott, Lily Brennan, William Morrow and Imogen Aue during a critical incident involving a young child at the centre in December 2023.
On a scorching 40-degree day, Imogen saw a three-year-old child unsupervised and struggling to swim. Unable to leave her post, she promptly alerted staff over the radio.
Carly responded immediately, diving into the pool to rescue the child. Once out of the water, the child was conscious but not breathing when she was joined by William and Lily, and together they began resuscitation efforts. After a series of back blows, the child expelled a large amount of water and took a breath.
Meanwhile, Atefeh and Regan worked quickly to locate the child’s mother and provided support and follow-up information. The team’s calm, coordinated response helped prevent a tragedy and showcases the vital role of well-trained aquatic staff.

With support from the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the event brought together friends, family, and local officials to commend the lifeguards.
Mayor Glenn Wilson read the citation and presented the awards alongside Elzandi Nicholls, Manager of Goldfields Oasis, praising the team’s actions and the vital role they play in protecting the community.
“We are incredibly proud of the team at Goldfields Oasis. Their actions reflect the very best of our community—courage, professionalism, and care for others,” he said. “It’s reassuring to know we have such capable and dedicated individuals looking out for the safety of our residents.”
Royal Life Saving WA CEO Peter Leaversuch highlighted the importance of honouring lifeguards at the awards. “Lifeguards are highly trained for emergencies, but it takes incredible courage and composure to act decisively in the heat of the moment.”

Of the six recipients, four were honoured at Wednesday’s ceremony, with Carly (pictured right) receiving her award at the Bravery Awards in Perth last October and William unable to attend.
For the Goldfields community, it was not just a moment to reflect on a lifesaving act, it was a chance to show gratitude and pride for the people working every day to keep local families safe.
