Young stars shine at 2022 JLC State Titles
Junior Lifeguard Club participants from around Perth impressed us with the skills they’ve been learning at the 2022 JLC State Titles over the weekend!
The action took place at HBF Arena Joondalup on Sunday 19th June, with 43 competitors taking part in a series of modified pool lifesaving events throughout the afternoon.
Events included a 50m swim with obstacles, 50m rescue tube tow, 50m manikin carry and a team line-throw relay.
The Junior Lifeguard Club program operates at various Royal Life Saving Endorsed Swim Schools around the state and is an alternative program to traditional swimming lessons for kids who want a different challenge. Children are able to combine their passion for swimming with the skills involved in lifesaving techniques.
“The JLC State Titles is a great way for students to showcase what they have learnt throughout the year,” says Endorsed Swim Schools Coordinator Amy Vearing. “They get to participate in a fun, participation-based competition all while refining their lifesaving skills.”
Participating in a JLC program is a great introduction to the sport of pool lifesaving, as well as a pathway to future employment in the aquatic industry. Many JLC students continue on to participate in pool lifesaving competitions, with a team of WA athletes recently heading to New South Wales for the annual Australian Pool Lifesaving Championships.
The Royal Life Saving Junior Lifeguard Club program is supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. To learn more about the program and how you can get involved, follow the link below!
The 2022 JLC State Titles results are listed below. Well done to everyone who competed and we can’t wait to see those lifesaving skills continue to develop!
