Junior Lifeguards showcase their skills

30 June 2016

Junior Lifeguard Club members from across the metro area showed off their skills on Sunday 19th June, at the Junior Lifeguard Club State Titles at Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre.

The annual State Titles are designed to test the pool lifesaving skills that children have learnt at their respective clubs throughout the year, in a fun and exciting environment.

This year 86 participants from 10 different clubs took part in the event, including members from Altone Park Leisure Centre, Ballajura Aquatic Centre, Wanneroo Aquamotion, Cannington Leisureplex, The Swim School, Leisure Park Balga, Fremantle Leisure Centre, Bold Park, Central Aquatic Swimming & Lifesaving Club and host club Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre.  Special mention needs to be made of The Swim School, who had every single member of their Junior Lifeguard Club program attend to compete in the event.

The Junior Lifeguard Club program aims to increase children’s participation in swimming & lifesaving activities, and is an aquatic education alternative to traditional swimming lessons for children who want to combine their passion for swimming with the ability to learn new lifesaving skills.

Trent Hotchkin, Senior Manager Swimming and Water Safety Education at Royal Life Saving WA says “It's great to see the children have so much fun practising skills that may one day save a life. These lifesaving skills are essential in our Australian environment, where young people take part in so many aquatic based activities.”

Events conducted on the day included the 50m Obstacle race, 50m Manikin carry, 50m Manikin tow with rescue tube and 10m Rope Throw Relay.

Congratulations to all those who received places in their age groups, and to all those who competed on the day and showed the fantastic progress they've made in their skills over the past 12 months.
