Kambalda West District High School students complete the Bronze Medallion course Good things come in three's including Bronze, more specifically Bronze Medallion which Kambalda West District High School attended for the third year in a row.  And who better to facilitate the course delivered in partnership with BHP than resident local train, Di Crisp.

The Bronze Medallion had great results for all involved with high engagement as well as achievement in receiving the qualification, but the best part remains that some of the participants are now employed to work at the Kambalda Aquatic Facility.

Deputy Principal, Alysia Allen of West Kambalda District High School who organised the Bronze Medallion for nine students said, '' The kids absolutely loved the experience, and we would be keen to go again next year if the opportunity arises."

Now, these Lifesavers can contribute to the day-to-day supervision of the facilities, along with providing instrumental support during peak times or events when there is an increased demand for support. Their presence adds an extra layer of protection and enhances the overall safety measures in place.

This is great to see as running these courses is all about providing kids in regional areas with practical employmentskills which they can utilise in both first time jobs and in the future to advance their careers.

Kathy Brooking, Leisure and Recreation Development Manager at the Shire of Coolgardie said, ''It's a commendable initiative between the Royal Life Saving WA, Kambalda WDHS, and the Shire that addresses both the need for skilled lifeguards and youth employment in the community.''

And the kids love it, they are always keen which is what keeps Royal Life Saving WA coming back year after year.

The content is always interesting with a mix of workshop and practical learning to cater to everyone.

''Skills such as aquatic rescue and resusciation are ones that can be used for life'', said one participant with another participant reinforcing the sentiment by highlighting how important it is to know how to look after others but also oneself.

''It's definitely a harder job than it looks.''

With that being said, it is an achievement which proves its use in many different industries not just recreation and aquatics.
