Hedland awash with new lifeguards

16 young Hedland locals recently celebrated the culmination of four months of dedicated training and commitment in Hedland, earning themselves a raft of qualifications to kickstart their careers in the aquatic industry!

Commencing in September this year, the group embarked on a journey together to pursue a common goal of becoming a lifeguard. The diverse group reflected a fruit bowl of culture with Aboriginal, South African, Chilean, Malaysian, Greek and English backgrounds coming together in Hedland to complete their training.

Through Royal Life Saving WA’s Talent Pool program, these young achievers each completed their Bronze Medallion, Provide First Aid and Pool Lifeguard qualifications! Congratulations to each of the participants on their achievements, and we wish them well as they dive into the aquatic industry in pursuit of first-time employment.

One of the recently qualified, Jesse Thompson, is thrilled to finally be able to don his new lifeguard uniform. Jesse was very excited to wear it for the first time to begin his ‘shadow’ shifts at South Hedland Aquatic Centre.

The Talent Pool program provides a springboard for young people to complete accredited training and seek gainful employment as a result of their training.
