RLSSWA volunteers Clay and Kate at the BHP Family Fun Day in Port Hedland“Royal Life Saving WA supported the BHP Family Fun Day with a family fun interactive stall manned by Royal Life Saving WA staff and volunteers,” said Senior Manager Community Development, Tim Turner.

Tim was joined by Pilbara Development Officer Lauren Thompson, along with volunteers Clay and Kate, to engage with the local community and promote key Royal Life Saving messages.

Tim said the team “worked tirelessly on a hot day to create fun and raise awareness about water safety and survival. The stall had over 800-1000 interactions on the day and was one of the most popular with kids, with showbags and giveaway prizes."

Popular games included the foam frisbee rescue simulation, which allowed throwers of all ages to have a go at netting the frisbees. Visitors to the stall could also practise their CPR on the first aid training manikin, ‘dunk a duck’ in the mini basketball hoop, and even enjoy relaxing in the ‘duck pond’ – an inflatable paddle pool filled with toy ducks!

Some of the key messages promoted by our team included information about the Swim and Survive program, as well as the popular ‘Be a Mermate’ campaign, which encourages people to look out for their mates while drinking around water. The latter proved quite popular with the dads at the event who appreciated the bottle opener giveaways!
