Talent Pool success in Geraldton

Royal Life Saving WA would like to congratulate our latest Talent Pool success story, Marianne Mallard, who has just been offered a permanent part-time position as a pool lifeguard and swimming instructor at the City of Greater Geraldton’s aquatic facility, Aquarena.

34-year-old Marianne hails from the Wajarri/Nanda people of the Mid-West Gascoyne region of WA. Growing up in Carnarvon, the pool was a place where she felt safe, spending many of her summers there. Her love of the pool led her to undertake a traineeship as a pool lifeguard after finishing school. On completion of her traineeship she decided to start a family.

Marianne then moved to Geraldton where she has been raising her three children and also, at times, her three stepchildren. After the birth of her youngest child she decided it was time to re-enter the aquatic industry, completing her Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety and Infant Aquatics qualifications. She was then lucky enough to be employed by the City of Greater Geraldton as a swimming instructor, teaching children ranging from six months to 18 years old.

Marianne has also instilled her love of the aquatic environment into her own children, who all commenced swimming lessons at six months of age. Marianne had a proud mum moment recently when her eldest, who is now 14, completed his Bronze Medallion award.

Earlier this year, Marianne heard about Royal Life Saving WA’s Talent Pool program where she could further upskill to become an Aquatic Trainer, which she did! Talent Pool is very excited to work alongside Marianne and will be sponsoring her Senior Pool Lifeguard course in readiness for her anticipated commencement in August this year.
