Wiluna community continues to thrive in training
Wiluna Martu Rangers and staff from the Wiluna Remote Community School have refreshed their lifesaving knowledge, recently participating in Royal Life Saving WA’s CPR and First Aid courses.
The Wiluna Martu Rangers' Manager for the Environment and Operations Team, Dr Dorian Moro, approached Royal Life Saving Talent Pool Manager Cameron Eglington about getting their team of rangers’ resuscitation and first aid skills up to scratch. Given the integral role the rangers and school staff play in keeping their community safe, it is vital that these members are equipped with lifesaving skills to assist in an emergency.
Participants learnt relevant first aid techniques for common scenarios they may experience in their community, including practising their skills for treating snake bites, stings, burns and bandaging. The rangers and staff were heavily engaged in the hands-on experience, finding the practical session to be helpful for potential real-life challenges they may be confronted with.
Over the last few years our Talent Pool program has been working with the support of Principal Community Partner BHP to deliver essential training programs to regional WA. These training sessions have helped to build the knowledge, skills, fitness and judgement of these valued lifesaving members of our regional communities.
Our dedicated community trainers from Perth make the trip to these regional communities to support students and staff in learning critical aquatic and first aid skills. Local qualified aquatic and resuscitation trainer Katie Lindquist has continued to support the program and make a significant impact on her community by helping to deliver these sessions in Wiluna.
Many thanks to Wiluna Remote Community School Principal Bernadette Delaney and her staff for hosting the training and providing an amazing lunch for trainers and participants. It’s great to see the valued impact training sessions continue to have on the Wiluna community!
