Dawn Walker standing in front of a CPR manikinRoyal Life Saving Community Trainer Dawn Walker conducts first aid and CPR courses in the Rockingham area. For Dawn first aid training is her second job, aside from working full time on weekdays, and is something she loves doing!

Earlier this year Royal Life Saving approached its community trainers to encourage them to try advertising their courses through our website. For a $20 fee per participant and certificate costs trainers can have access to the thousands of people visiting the Royal Life Saving website each week, with training department staff completing the administration work for the bookings.

Dawn was one of the first community trainers to take up the offer, saying it seemed there was really nothing to lose. “Marketing can be a real issue and getting information about my courses out to a wider space has been challenging. Because Royal Life has quite a bit of traffic going through the website I thought there would be no harm in trying to promote my courses through there and see what the response was.”

Dawn’s initial advertising resulted in one extra participant in a course, and despite the fact there wasn’t a huge response she says it was certainly worthwhile. “I would definitely try again as there’s nothing really to lose because you’re not charged unless people sign up via the Royal Life Saving website. You can name your price, say how many people you want to accept for a course through this channel, and Royal Life does all the administration. I also advertised the course on Gumtree and Facebook and overall had about 10 people join from a number of sources.”

For community trainers who work in regional areas, or on the outskirts of the metropolitan area, Royal Life Saving website advertising can be very beneficial. It provides the opportunity for people living close to where a trainer is based to discover a course in their local area, rather than having to travel to a major centre to complete training.
