Eligible Courses

Two nationally recognised short courses - the Pool Lifeguard Skill Set and Swimming and Water Safety Teacher Skill Set - will fast-track participants into entry-level pool lifeguarding and swimming instructor roles in time for the aquatic industry's busy summer period.

Each course can be used as credit toward further qualifications including the Certificate III in Aquatics and Community Recreation, which is a pathway to a wider range of employment opportunities across the leisure and aquatic recreation industry, or further study. Swimming and Water Safety Skill Set

This training course has no prerequisites and is suitable for anyone seeking the qualifications needed to work as a Swimming and Water Safety Instructor. Successful completion of the training course will result in the attainment of:

  • SISCAQU002 - Perform Basic Water Rescue
  • SISCAQU008 - Instruct water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills
  • SISCAQU009 - Instruct water safety and survival skills
  • SISCAQU010 - Instruct swimming strokes

Pool Lifeguard Skill Set

This training course has no prerequisites and is suitable for anyone seeking the qualifications needed to work as a Pool Lifeguard. Successful completion of the training course will result in the attainment of:

  • HLTAID003 - Provide First Aid
  • SISCAQU002 - Perform Basic Water Rescue
  • SISCAQU006 - Supervise clients in aquatic locations
  • SISCAQU007 - Perform advanced water rescues
  • PUAEME001B - Provide emergency care
  • PUAEME003C - Administer oxygen in an emergency situation

*Eligibility

One of the following must apply to you in order to be eligible:
- Persons aged 15 – 24 years at the time of enrolment (excluding school students)
- Secondary school-aged persons who are not enrolled at school
- Persons receiving the JobSeeker or JobKeeper payment
- Persons and dependents of persons receiving the Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY
- Persons and dependents of persons holding:
A pensioner concession card or Health Care Card; or
A repatriation Health Benefits Card issued by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
- Persons and dependents of persons who are inmates of a custodial institution.
