Spending time in the water is an iconic part of living in Australia. But too many children drown every year in rivers, lakes, dams, bathtubs and swimming pools.
For every child who drowns in WA up to 10 are hospitalised following a non-fatal drowning incident, with up to four of these suffering serious lifelong health implications. These injuries have a great impact on families, including psychosocial consequences for victims, siblings, parents, and other caregivers.
Royal Life Saving Society WA aims to prevent drowning by helping West Australians in understanding how to keep themselves and their families safe around water. However, when a fatal or non-fatal drowning occurs, we’re also determined to provide support; both practical and emotional, for families and individuals affected. We do so through our Community Help Grants.
