shire of Leonora logoLeonora is a town in the Goldfields region of WA, over 800km north-east of Perth. The town is a two-hour drive north from Kalgoorlie on the Goldfields Highway.

It was discovered and named by John Forrest in 1869 after his niece, Frances Leonora Hardey. Gold was discovered in the area in 1895 and resulted in the area’s rapid development. The town retains many historic buildings today.

Many Northern Goldfields events are held in Leonora, including the ‘Golden Gift’ event that attracts elite athletes to the town each year over the WA Day long weekend.
