Rockingham

City of Rockingham logoRockingham is part of the far southern suburbs of Perth, located 47km south-south-west of the CBD at the southern end of Cockburn Sound. The area received its name from the sailing ship Rockingham, one of three vessels which arrived carrying settlers to WA in May 1830.

Originally developed as a timber port exporting jarrah and sandalwood, the town became a popular seaside resort town after port operations shifted to Fremantle in the early 1900s. The area is known for its abundant sightseeing and recreational opportunities, including viewing dolphins, seals and penguins at the nearby Shoalwater Islands Marine Park.
