Wiluna is a small town in WA’s Mid West region, situated on the edge of the Western Desert 183km east of Meekatharra. It is home to the Martu Aboriginal people; the name Wiluna is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘place of wind’.
The historic gold mining town is located at one end of the Canning Stock Route, which runs from Halls Creek in the Kimberley and is the longest historic stock route in the world.
Wiluna is also the gateway to the Gunbarrel Highway which runs east through South Australia and the Northern Territory to Victory Downs. Both the Canning Stock Route and Gunbarrel Highway are popular with four-wheel drive enthusiasts.
