Maliriko, originally from Canberra, has been living in South Hedland for 11 years. She enjoys making clothing and jewellery and runs a small business at Hedland Senior High School selling brownies and cookies. She teaches taekwondo to all ages and plays touch rugby – in the future Maliriko hopes to run her own business.

Don't Drink Grog and Drown ambassador Maliriko Bule-TurnerMaliriko believes the young people in the Pilbara face many issues, including alcohol abuse, drug abuse and cyber bullying. As a Don’t Drink Grog and Drown ambassador, she wants to educate her peers on the risks of alcohol consumption around water.

She believes this is an important message to spread as the majority of people in Hedland socialise around water but aren’t educated or informed fully of the risks involved in drinking alcohol in or around water.

Maliriko hopes to promote this campaign so her peers and others in the area are informed of the risks of drinking and aquatic activity to hopefully prevent them, and those around them, from drowning.

We wish Maliriko all the very best in her endeavours as a Don’t Drink Grog and Drown ambassador and her goals to raise awareness of the issues young people face in the Pilbara.
