Stand up paddle boarding brings surfing and kayaking together. As the name suggests, you stand up on a board and with a paddle and glide gracefully across the water! Okay, so maybe you won’t be so graceful on your first few attempts!
Regardless of your age or ability, SUP boarding is an activity for the whole family (even the dog) and is the perfect way to enjoy the warmer weather in Perth!
To ensure you stay safe whilst out having fun, we’ve prepared a few hints and tips for you.
Top spots:
BYO board or hire a SUP for a day at our three favourite locations in Perth. These spots are all family friendly and are the perfect place to take a few happy snaps of you out having fun!
- Swan River
- Mandurah Estuary
- Rottnest Island
SUP Safety:
Zip up - Even though you’ll (hopefully) spend most time on top of the water, it is still important to wear a lifejacket. Slim fitting ones are best, as these won’t make paddling any harder!
Don’t get blown away - Wind will make your time out on a SUP board harder. Before packing your board and paddle for a trip, check the weather. Ideally, choose days with low waves and swell, little to no wind and plenty of sunshine.
Sun safety - Stay sun smart by wearing a hat, popping on sunglasses, slopping on some sunscreen and keeping hydrated! This will keep you protected from sunburn and heat exhaustion and keep a smile on your dial.
You’re now ready to head out and get up on your SUP! Have fun in the sun this spring and summer in Perth!
