Fun for leavers at Meelup Beach

28 November 2017

Royal Life Saving WA was proud to present the hugely successful Meelup Beach Day on November 22.

Around 5,000 leavers hit the beach in Dunsborough to enjoy the alcohol-free event organised our Don;t Drink and Drown program in partnership with the WA Police.

Leavers playing volleyball at Meelup BeachThe 2017 Leavers celebrated finishing school with a DJ, beach volleyball activities and an aqua playground. Royal Life Saving WA was one of many organisations in attendance at Dunsborough and Rottnest Island last week, along with WA Aids Council, Hope Community Services, Red Frogs, Cancer Council WA, Dallyellup LDAG and Lamp Inc.

Around four young people fatally drown in WA each year, with approximately 30% of these deaths involving alcohol. Alcohol-free events such as the Meelup Beach Day are important to show it’s possible to have fun around water without putting your safety at risk.

Royal Life Saving WA was proud to be involved, and can’t wait until next year when we do it all again! You can learn more about our Don't Drink and Drown program at the link below.
