Gingin kids have a ball as swimming lessons commence

14 November 2021
Gingin locals are very excited that the Gingin Aquatic Centre has opened for the season – none more so than the pool’s newest swim school participants!

The pool officially reopened for the summer season on Friday 15th October, and although the small Wheatbelt town is experiencing a cool start to the season it hasn’t stopped dozens of children enrolling for this term’s Swim and Survive program!

Gingin Aquatic Centre is one of Royal Life Saving WA’s Endorsed Swim Schools and recently participated in the Swim School Open Day campaign, which is run each year at Endorsed Swim Schools throughout WA. The Gingin Open Day was held over the weekend of October 23rd and 24th, with the community invited to come along and enjoy a free swim, swimming assessments and to enrol in lessons.

The Endorsed Swim School Open Day campaign aims to encourage swimming lesson enrolments and ensure children in all communities are receiving vital swimming and water safety education.  “The Swim School open days are an opportunity for centres to open their doors to the community and promote their lessons,” says Royal Life Saving WA Endorsed Swim School Coordinator Amy Vearing.

“We ensure all centres provide free Swim and Survive assessments and have plenty of fun giveaways for the students. It is also a great time for parents to enrol their children into lessons for Term 4.” Giveaways this year included Open Day bags and beach balls, which have been popular with the kids.

Lessons at the Gingin Aquatic Swim School commenced on 1st November, and are running every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with local swimming instructors Karen and Alice Grant.

Pool Manager Fran Haenni says the term is off to a great start, and the kids especially loved the Open Day giveaways. “We have given the balls and bags out when they came to the lessons. A big hit – but a bit tricky when it’s windy! At this stage we have just over 100 children attending swimming lessons. Now we just need warm weather!”
