PK Pool and Spa Care provide vital training for customers

10 August 2016

Royal Life Saving Society WA is proud to be partnering with PK Pool & Spa Care in Port Kennedy, who are providing a Heart Beat Club first aid session for their customers at their shop next month.

The session, to be presented by a Royal Life Saving Society WA trainer on Sunday afternoon the 4th of September, will cover first aid for common child injuries including burns and scolds, choking and drowning, and will also provide information on how to perform child resuscitation or CPR.

PK Pool & Spa Care’s Larissa Hackett says “the intention of the day is to provide a basic first aid course to approximately 20 of our loyal customers as a corporate responsibility type exercise. We provide products and services to assist our customers in caring for their pool or spa, so we want to also ensure they can use these as safely as possible.”

“We have a large migrant population around our shop and coming from a nation where the weather isn’t so conducive to a lot of swimming activity there doesn’t seem to be such an understanding of water safety. I think in the two years our shop has been open I’ve only sold one CPR chart for a pool owner to put up near their pool and that really shocked me.”

Less than four weeks out from the training the session is already fully booked, and has been extremely popular with customers.

Ms Hackett says she’d love to see other pool shops provide a similar service for their customers. “It hasn’t been difficult to arrange at all, and really all we are doing is providing a facility for the course to happen and paying a small fee for our customers to complete it. Royal Life Saving is providing the trainer and all the equipment.”

“With next month’s course now fully booked I’m taking down names and if we have enough interest we’ll look to run another session later in the year.”

Royal Life Saving Society WA CEO Peter Leaversuch says “I commend PK Pool & Spa Care for their commitment to the safety of their customers. It is our vision that every home pool owner is a lifesaver, able to rescue anyone using their pool. PK Pool & Spa Care are a member of the Swimming Pool & Spa Association and we’d love to hear from other pool shops who are interested in conducting a similar session for their customers.”

We would love to hear from any pool shops interested in conducting a similar session. Please contact us via the link below.
