We are Better Together thanks to our volunteers

15 May 2022
To celebrate National Volunteer Week, Royal Life Saving WA wants to say a big thank you to all our amazing volunteers who help change WA communities for the better!

As a not-for-profit organisation, our volunteers play a vital role in providing water safety education throughout the state.  With this week being a time to commemorate them, we’d like to look back at the ways our volunteers deliver a difference to the community.

Meelup Beachfest signNovember is a big time for our Youth Water Safety program with over 10,000 high-school graduates flocking to the South West for Leavers Week each year. Royal Life Saving WA sends a team of staff and volunteers to support the activities, including the Leavers’ favourite, Meelup BeachFest. Our volunteers help make the event a yearly success, while promoting the important Mermates water safety message.

Pool Lifeguard ChallengeOur volunteers also help us to run the annual Pool Lifeguard Challenge in partnership with LIWA Aquatics. The event tests the skills of WA lifeguards and encourages the continued improvement of lifeguard teams across the state. The ongoing success of this event can only be attributed to the people who volunteer their time to ensure that the day runs smoothly.

Every year, Royal Life Saving WA Community Trainers give back to metro and regional communities through hundreds of hours of volunteering. Whether it be operating through schools, aquatic centres, community venues or sometimes even on a riverbank, these trainers offer their time and depth of industry knowledge to support water safety promotion in communities across WA.

Community Trainers Cathie Calleja and Sallie WatsonOur Community Trainers are some of our biggest advocates of the key Royal Life Saving WA message ‘everyone can be a lifesaver’, donating their efforts to deliver first aid and water rescue skills throughout WA. Their advanced experience consistently provides a comfortable environment for everyone to feel as though they too can act safely and efficiently in case of an emergency.

It’s no secret that the incredible support of our volunteers has allowed Royal Life Saving WA to positively impact the lives of many Western Australians. Their vital support allows us to continue to thrive as an organisation, and this week (and every other week of the year), we thank those volunteers who make us better!
