Over six weeks, the Wickham Recreation Precinct pool ran two Multicultural Adults Swim and Survive lessons on Friday and Saturday. The sessions provided a welcoming and supportive environment for participants to build confidence in the water and learn foundational swimming techniques.

Led by experienced Royal Life Saving WA instructors Shelley Goddard and Kylie MacBeth, the beginner classes were a hit! Five local adults took part, with four women attending classes on both days, showing remarkable commitment and enthusiasm to build their swimming ability.

These sessions were delivered at no cost to participants, with funding provided through the Swim & Survive Fund.

“Programs like these are vital in regional communities,” said Lynette Farley, Royal Life Saving WA Inclusion Coordination. “They provide adults with the chance to gain crucial skills that could one day save a life, especially in areas where aquatic recreation is a big part of everyday life.”

The initiative also plays an important role in addressing gaps in swimming ability among multicultural populations in regional areas, where drowning statistics remain a concern. Programs like our Multicultural Adults lessons are a key part of Royal Life Saving WA's strategy to reduce drowning rates and improve water safety across the state.

Special thanks to the City of Karratha and Wickham pool manager Osi Burger for supporting the program.
