Perth College equipping students with lifesaving skills

1 December 2016

Perth College recently hosted a School Swimming and Lifesaving Carnival with a difference at HBF Stadium Mount Claremont.two students competing in a tow swimming race at HBF stadium

The innovative school carnival was a combination of lifesaving, water polo, swimming and team events.

Royal Life Saving has been working to with a number of schools to combine pool lifesaving events into their carnivals. The new format meets a number of outcomes in the school curriculum, and provides opportunities for a greater range of aquatic abilities - ensuring more children are actively involved and making the carnivals a fun event.

Perth College strongly promotes aquatic activities within their programs, encouraging students to achieve their Bronze Medallion, and also giving Year 11 and 12’s the opportunity to complete their Swim Instructor qualification. This enables the students to go on to teach in their after school programs at the Perth College Academy. The school has been conducting these activities for more than 10 years.

We would like to thank Perth College for their commitment to ensuring their students leave school with strong lifesaving skills, as these are vital in enabling the students to fully enjoy our Western Australian climate and lifestyle.
