Shire of Halls Creek Recreation Centre Manager, Ryan Chapman, recently completed his Aquatic Trainer qualification with Royal Life Saving WA and can now teach Bronze Medallion and Resuscitation courses to the Halls Creek community.
He spoke with us about his career in the industry and his future plans.
“I’ve worked in the aquatic industry my whole working life.
I have managed and operated large scale aquatic centres and implemented aquatic education programs of drowning prevention within Australia and USA. My passion for aquatic education and drowning prevention comes from an extensive lifesaving competition background which took me to state, national and international levels.
I have recently made the move back into the Aquatic Industry from the Education Sector, where I have relocated from east to west. I was invited to come to Halls Creek to reinvent the Recreation and Aquatic Centre in the scope of the Tanami Road being sealed within the next 5 years.
My goal is to strategically plan and implement programs into the Centre as well as upskill the workforce of Halls Creek, to allow for future employment.
My ethos is that education is a human right given to all, and that all who can share knowledge and education, should share knowledge and educate.
I plan to follow my ethos with the help of Royal Life Saving WA and their assistance in upskilling the community using Royal Life Saving programs and courses.”
Royal Life Saving looks forward to continuing to support the Halls Creek community and working with the Shire to ensure all children have the opportunity to learn to swim and survive.
