Swim Teacher by Royal Life Saving

Royal Life Saving is synonymous with high standards in swimming and water safety, and so is our Swim Teacher by Royal Life Saving course.

This course equips students with the skills, knowledge, and qualifications to plan, deliver and assess vocational and non-vocational training courses. We used our expertise as a fully accredited RTO in developing this course to incorporate modern training methods with a mix of online, classroom and practical hours to cater for all types of learners. 

 

Accreditation and Licence

Swim Teacher by Royal Life Saving is recognised by the following organisations:

  • National Sport & Recreation Industry Training package
  • National Aquatic Industry Safety Committee
  • Western Australian Department of Health (as an approved qualification of Swimming and Water Safety instruction)
  • Western Australian Department of Training and Workforce Development
  • Western Australian Endorsed Swim School Committee

What is a Swim Teacher Licence?

Upon successful completion of the Swim Teacher by Royal Life Saving course and practical hours, in conjunction with having a current Working With Children check and CPR certificate, students will be issued a Swim Teacher award certificate and licence to conduct swimming and water safety classes in Australia.

Swim Teacher licences are valid for one year from the date of issue.

Insurance

Royal Life Saving WA Licenced Swim Teachers are covered for insurance in the following instances:

  • working as an Employee of a swim school
  • working as a Volunteer

The insurance does not provide cover if you are engaged as a Contractor, or are a Swim School Operator. In these instances you are advised to purchase your own business insurance policies.

Royal Life Saving WA Swim Teacher insurance covers:

  • Public Liability: $20,000,000 any one occurrence
  • Products Liability: $20,000,000 any one occurrence and in the aggregate
  • Professional Indemnity: $5,000,000 any one claim and $10,000,000 in the aggregate for any one period of insurance

Practical Hours

As part of the application for a Swim Teacher licence, candidates must complete the below on-the-job activities:

  • Workplace Induction Checklist (to be completed on first day of employment)
  • Organisational Work Health and Safety (completed as soon as reasonably possible after employment)
  • Supervised Teaching Practice (at least four controlled Learn to Swim sessions under direct supervision of an Approved Workplace Supervisor)
  • Workplace Supervision Verification (upon completion of the above components)
